Website Design Trends in History
In 1997 when we published our first website and internet connections
measured a mere 28.8kbs (a fraction of today's broadband speeds) we had to
trade in design over the loading speed. For this reason early websites had very
little graphical content, let alone any type of the rich media we experience
and sometimes take for granted currently. This had an adverse affect on the way
we could design a site that was pleasing to the eye, easy to navigate and could
be available on your screen within ten seconds.
Not too many years after this in 2000 when connecting to the internet was becoming
cheaper and faster we started to see web designers taking more a gamble with
the weight of there developments. Higher resolution graphics were beginning to
come on the scene and even animations to create more of a 'feel good factor'
for the user. Clever technical tricks, design skills with good clean coding
marked the start of a new era that would pave the way to an explosion of
interactive and very useable websites that would capture the user with the
clever design skills we were beginning to develop.
By 2004 things had taken a massive leap with the rollout of broadband throughout
the UK
and into most homes the internet had evolved into a new and substantial new
media. Traders, advertisers and everyone else began to see the massive
financial implications that would fuel a new race to have the best website and
online presence. Designers were now also free to use all their intricate
designs with rich content alongside heavy backend applications that were being
developed by large corporations to mange and integrate with their established
businesses and create the platform for all commerce related activity including
the financial, government and retail sectors.
By the end of 2007 online transactions in the UK alone have risen to a staggering
£59 billion for the year. Content has gone to the level that TV, FILMS, MUSIC,
VOICE and VIDEO conferencing is now available on almost every PC. Web design
hear in London has become a multi million bound industry and the clients are coming
back again and again to invest more in their online presence in the way of
keeping their look, functionality and search engine and marketing fresh and up
to date. Design has actually taken a step in a new direction with the
introduction of web 2.0 which has steered design in a more user friendly and
softer impact on the eye with very little or none at all in the way of
animations or hi res graphics where they can be avoided, just to give the
actual message across in a more direct and accurate way. Many of the designs
that we see and produce ourselves today are designed with the user in mind and
to give them the best experience whether they are shopping or trying to contact
a company for their services we aim to get them in and out in the quickest and
most stress free way possible.
